A 25.65 Km long Metro Rail Project starting from Kalamassery and ending at Pettah is soon to become a reality. The metro rail will consist of 22 stations. Work is expected to commence some time in October with the active participation of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The first phase of the Kochi Metro Rail is said to be completed by June 2016.
An ambitious plan that envisages the employment of over a lakh of IT Professionals is soon to come up at Kakkanad on the outskirts of the City on the lines of those found in Europe and Middle East. The Project will be developed by a joint venture company, Smart City Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. It is hoped that this venture will alter the face of Kerala.
The Government in collaboration with the district authorities have constructed a new Bus Terminal at Vyttila with a view to reduce the congestion now being faced by the city. The long distance buses would end their journey at Vyttila. Spread over 37 acres of area, this terminal considered to be the one of the largest terminal in India. The first phase was completed on February 2011.
Work for the Vallarpadam Container Terminal Project (VCTP) is progressing at a very fast pace with the active participation of Dubai Port International. The World's largest supertankers will be in a position to berth at the port on completion of the project. It is the first terminal in the country to operate in a special economic zone. It is located in the Vallarpadam Island.
The Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) regasification Terminal is located in Puthuvype, Kochi. Commissioned in August 2013, the terminal had an estimated cost of 4,200 crores. Petronet LNG has developed this terminal, which has a capacity of distributing 5 million tonnes per annum. The current customers of LNG Terminal are Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore, BPCOL and Nitta Gelatin India Ltd.
